Rubber City Theatre Offers a One-Man Version of “A Christmas Carol”

Sat 12/12-Sun 12/20

Akron’s Rubber City Theatre, which recently announced that it had become the first theater in the city to commit to an Actors’ Equity contract and up its level of professionalism, has just announced it’s 2020-2021 season, with the caveat that it can’t say yet whether the announced shows will be live on its newly refurbished stage or virtual. It’s promising to keep an eye on COVID guidelines to decide.

Meanwhile, it’s going ahead with its virtual holiday production, a world premier adaptation by Casey Robinson of the oft-performed Charles Dickens story A Christmas Carol. They describe it as a “one-person guide through Dickens’ holiday classic in an immersive audience experience.” It stars New York actor Christopher Joel Onken as the guide in this one-man performance, telling the classic tale of a miser converted by the Christmas spirit and some scary ghosts, as he brings all the well-known characters to live.

“While we’re looking forward to the day we can be together again, we’re thrilled with the digital details and effort put into this performance,” says Rubber City Theatre’s executive artists director Dane CT Leasure. “It is sure to be unlike anything you’ve seen from us before.”

The show will have six performances between December 12-20. Go here for tickets.
