The Cleveland-based Contemporary Youth Orchestra, founded 25 years ago, gives talented young musicians from across the reason the opportunity to work with contemporary composers — both classical and pop — and perform their music. They’ve done frequent collaborative performances with rock & pop musicians such as Jefferson Starship, Kenny Logins, Graham Nash, Bootsie Collins, Pat Benatar and Styx.
Now they’re presenting a collaboration with a name very familiar to northeast Ohio music lovers: Michael Stanley. Stanley, along with his longtime keyboard player Bob Pelander and vocalist Jennifer Lee, have joined CYO to record a new version of a Stanley/Pelander-penned tune called “Another New Year’s Eve,” described as “an uplifting song perfect for the times we’re navigating.” Recording and rehearsing was done, of course, via Zoom.
Since CYO provides scholarships to musicians, it’s hoping the video will serve as a fundraiser for the nonprofit orchestra, showing a wider community what it has to offer. The finished song will premiere Friday December 11 @ 8pm on the CYO YouTube channel. Tune in here.
