Lucy Bailey is a newly minted art school graduate, a multi-disciplinary artist who received her BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art last year, with a double major I painting and printmaking. But she’s wasting no time getting her work out there and into galleries: good for her!
She’s following up her solo show at Praxis Fiber Workshop’s gallery last summer with another at the Van Aken Community Gallery at Christ Episcopal Church, opening on Saturday November 7, called Light Through the Trees. She says that while her work is based in painting, she also incorporates she employs including photography, digital assemblage, fiber processes, and installation.
‘This particular body of work began during the COVID-19 lockdown, a period in which I have a heightened sense of anxiety while more aware of the world around me,” says Bailey in her artist statement. “I am inspired by moments just before dawn, noticing the first rays of light through trees and the sun in branches swayed by the wind. These moments give me a larger perspective of life and counterbalance my anxiety. Early morning is my time of meditation, impacting what I later put into my work — a play of emotions with the unexpected joy.”
The gallery is open Wednesdays from noon-4pm, or you can see the show by appointment by contacting the artist at lucybaileyart.com.
