Fri 10/16-Sat 10/31
Halloween celebrations this year are going to be considerably dialed back, especially activities for adults (Halloween stores report they’re taking a bath on adult costumes, usually a huge profit center). But some communities are finding ways to celebrate don’t require a lot of people crammed together, and that are engaging for all ages.
Main Street Kent, for instance, is presenting The Hallo-Wiener Story Walk, running from Friday October 16 through Saturday October 31.
Various businesses in downtown Kent will have a page of the story in their window, encouraging people to do some walking, stop into some of the businesses, and enjoy some warm beverages and treats. Once you’ve completed the story, sign the guest book on Main Street Kent’s website to unlock at donation to Kent’s Rough Riders Read program to encourage literacy by providing kids with books and be entered in a drawing to win an autographer copy of the book. Cleveland’s Dav Pilkey, author of The Hallo-Wiener, is also making a donation to the program.
Printed maps will be available at Red LetterDays (144 E. Main Street) or you can download the map at story-walk-kent. Each window display will point to the location of the next page. For more information, go to story-walk-kent/.
