Cleveland Play House’s Theatre Thursday Explores Voting Rights

The Cleveland Play House isn’t messing around with the next edition of its monthly Theatre Thursday online presentations, hosted by CPH artistic director Laura Kepley and artistic directing fellow Stori Ayers.

It’s called Ohio Votes!, and it will include conversations and performances that shed light on the history of the fight for voting rights in America to highlight how important getting out to vote is today. Performances will include scenes from Thurgoodby George Stevens Jr., about legendary 20th-century U.S. Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall; at Smart’s The Agitatorsabout Frederick Douglas and Susan B. Anthony; and a new short play When Statues Fallby Loy A. Webb, commissioned by the Cleveland Play House.

Panelists scheduled to talk about voting are Cuyahoga County Board of Elections director Anthon Perlatti; Jen Miller, executive director of The League of Women Voters — OHIO; and former county commissoner who gave up politics for theater, Peter Lawson Jones.
