Did you miss the virtual Tri-C JazzFest back in August?
While the usual festivities at Playhouse Square were knocked out by the pandemic, the three-day, six-hour line-up of both live and recorded performances, archival footage and interviews was impressive — and the shows are still available for viewing online.
More than 75,000 people tuned in to hear the 41stTri-C JazzFest online and listen to artists such asvocalists Vanessa Rubin and Evelyn Wright; pianist/educator Lafayette Carthon; veteran local pianist Joe Hunter; soul/jazz ensemble Hubb’s Groove; guitarist Dan Wilson and his trio; sax player Chris Coles and his band Gleam; Jazzworks, comprising some of the area’s top jazz musicians; trumpeter Dominick Farinacci, who parlayed his early music education at Tri-C into a world class career; Tri-C’s Spirit of the Grooves, featuring high school musicians hoping to become the next Dominick Farinacci; pianist Jackie Warren; bassist Walter Barners Jr and friends; and Sammy DeLeon’s Latin Jazz Sextet.
They also heard two of the top jazz bassists, Christian McBride and John Clayton, sharing their stories live. If you missed out the first time, go here to catch up.
The original airing raised almost $10,000 to help Tri-C students facing financial difficulties that could interrupt their education, and donations are still welcome. But it’s free to tune in.
