Wed 10/7 at 6:30PM at BOP STOP (live concert)

Thu 10/8 at 7PM Livestream

Years before punk reared its ugly head in New York or London, a group of misfits, art students and disaffected youth in our region, many of them shocked by the massacre at Kent State University, spun off bands and artists that eventually moved on to New York and London as leaders of the new punk scene.

Obsessive musicologist Thomas Mulready, in collaboration with glam punk heroes Vanity Crash, turn their attention to the rise of a movement that still shakes the world. Fully produced from extensive first-person video interviews with the artists and scene makers, the livestreamed multi-media event includes original and classic songs from bands in the Cleveland/Akron/Kent axis who influenced generations.

But first, an honest-to-goodness, old-school, safe, socially distanced LIVE outdoor concert kicks things off at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame on Thu 9/17 from 5-7PM (this concert is concluded).

Next, another LIVE outdoor, safe, distanced concert at BOP STOP on Wed 10/7 at 6:30PM featuring Vanity Crash performing the live concert version of The Birth of PUNK in Cleveland, Akron & Kent. (Limited tickets available– required for admission).

Livestreamed events take place Thu 10/8 & Fri 10/9 (FREE with required ticket, donations accepted), streamed live from Cleveland’s own BOP STOP. The Birth of PUNK in Cleveland, Akron & Kent: The complete show featuring exclusive video interviews with artists, rare video & photos, plus live music by Vanity Crash performing originals and punk classics.

Will this include any info about Michigan Mom-college radio dj-who was one of the first to introduce punk & new wave to Cleveland Radio? I don’t remember if she was on WRUW from Case or from CSU.
