Cyclists are gathering this week for yet another Bike the Block for Black Lives — events that allow bike riders to get some exercise, see a new part of town they may not have much familiarity with, and make a public statement against racism and police brutality.
This one starts at Luke Easter Park in Cleveland’s Mount Pleasant, with a route of approximately 12 miles. (You can see the route on Bike the Block’s website). All are welcome to ride (including kids). Gather at 11am, rain or shine. Helmets are required, masks are advised, and many participants will be wearing black.
“We are biking for civic engagement, community participation, and individual commitment to racial justice and equity for the long haul which we will be doing through voter registration, census completion and continuing to petition for justice for Breonna Taylor and so many others,” say the organizers. “We bike for justice. We bike for freedom. We bike for black joy. We bike for black rest. We bike for black love. We bike for black lives.”
