As the realization dawns that, no, the virus isn’t under control and your festival, pushed back from June or July to September or October, is going to be scratched, people in the arts community are rushing to take advantage of the waning days of summer with distanced outdoor events such as drive-in concerts or live events to be consumed virtually.
So the Tremont neighborhood’s annual Arts in August series, which brings people together for free music, dance and theater performances in Lincoln Park, will be going on. But it will feature only four performances — on successive Saturdays — with a mix of virtual and in-person events.
People are so hungry to get out and DO that the opening performance by Verb Ballets, a drive-in event in the parking lot of Annunciation Church, is already booked up.
On Saturday August 15 @ 7pm, there’s be an all-virtual presentation of Julius Caesar by the Cleveland Shakespeare Festival, which can be viewed any time after that. Inlet Dance will do a live/virtual performance on Saturday August 22, with Cleveland Public Theatre presenting a “pop-up” on Saturday August 29.
