Jilly’s Music Room in Akron has been hosting a virtual concert series called #STREAMINGSATURDAY, with a variety of Akron-based artists.
This weekend it’s presenting a special concert featuring Akron music legend Tracey Thomas debuting her new album My Roots Are Showing, her tenth release. Thomas first came to most people’s attention when she fronted Akron New Wave band Unit 5 in the 90s. She then moved on to release a series of poignant singer/songwriter albums, starting in the mid 90s. Her new release continues to show her strong skills as an affecting songwriter and vocalist. Her current sound has a very strong alt country/Americana flavor or, in the case of some songs, such as “Out From Under,” it’s just flat-out country.
For the #STREAMINGSATURDAY, she’s be accompanied by Benjamin William Payne (guitars, drums, bass, whistling and more) Tim Longfellow (piano, accordion), Tren Houseman (upright and electric bass), Heather Malyuk (fiddle) and Mark Shengle (pedal steel). All but Houseman also played on the album.
