MANSFIELD: Was The President Heaven-Sent?

America is a nation that supposedly — in the vast majority — comprises individuals that have faith in some form of organized religion. I say “supposedly” since in far too many instances many of our fellow citizens often act in a completely irreligious manner.

However, granting everyone the benefit of the doubt, taking people at their word that they believe in a higher power, the question becomes, “Does that higher power — that deity — take a direct hand in the temporal affairs of earth?”

Did that all-seeing and -knowing Heavenly Being, at last tiring of how our nation has consistently failed for hundreds of years to live up to the values espoused in our nation’s founding documents, finally decide to force change upon us and select a buffoon/conman as his instrument of change? Did this infinitely wise Being send Donald Trump, knowing that his election would splinter the nation by his empowering of bigots and racists, and thereby force a reckoning — a great moral awakening that will eventually lead to a healing of the nation, something that few thought was possible a mere four years ago?

Make no mistake: If Trump had not become the occupant of the White House, George Floyd would still be alive today. His consistent voicing of racist dog-whistle memes and blatant disregard of any and all citizens that are not of European ancestry has served as a call-to-arms and emboldened haters of every ilk and stripe, some of whom carry badges and guns. However, as bigots always wont to do, one vicious cop in Minneapolis went too far and ignited the powder keg of revulsion that is going to blow up the long existing racist order in America and promises to once and for all make us the great nation we’ve pretended to be for all of these centuries.

Additionally, to assure that His plan worked to perfection, He sent a pandemic that, while it affected the entire world, is only laying waste to America since in His infinite wisdom He knew the person He had put in place would be totally lacking in the character, compassion or ability required to manage a catastrophe of biblical proportions and thereby will go down in history as the worse president our — or any nation — has ever elected. What’s Trump’s latest inane babbling regarding the coronavirus? “We have to learn to live with it.”

Trump’s legacy is by now forever sealed — and know this: Only a nation as great and strong as ours could have survived someone like this diabolical monster of a so-called human being, and we shall emerge from this darkest chapter of our blood-stained history even stronger, finally moving towards becoming a fair and just nation that we have long idealized.

So, for all means and purposes, Trump’s job is now completed, finished, done. He’s accomplished what he was put in the White House to do. After the election Americans of good conscience will take the helm and from that new starting point steer the Ship of State towards placid, unifying waters.

Trump is a fake and a fraud existing in a bubble, but as that election inches closer and closer, he too will finally realize that his fate is already sealed. The best thing he can attempt do is to try to negotiate a deal whereby he resigns from office in disgrace with the understanding that neither he — nor members of his immediate family — will be prosecuted by the incoming administration for all of the “high crimes and misdemeanors” committed under his tenure as president.

Job well done, Mr. Trump, well done, and on our nation’s birthday I — as well as a majority of other true Americans — sincerely thank you for your service to the country. Godspeed on your journey to oblivion and that special place you have secured for yourself in the dustbin of history.

Spot on, Mansfield. The reaction to the election of Barack Obama, sadly, yielded the possibility of a Donald Trump presidency, and the abject ineptitude and racism of the Trump presidency will yield a better day.

I enjoyed reading your article and hope many more people do also. You are really spot-on with Trump’s role as instigator in the USA people recognizing our faults and divisions. Healing this country will not be easy and may take a long time, but I hope it would be a start.
