T. Rextasy in the Vanity Crash Pad

T. Rex was as big as The Beatles in England in the early 1970’s with 11 U.K. Top Ten hits. Updating Beatlemania, they called it “T. Rextacy,” and leader Marc Bolan’s influence was felt on everyone from David Bowie and Elton John to the New York Dolls, The Ramones, Joy Division, The Smiths and The Pixies (and obviously from this photo, guitarist Slash).

Their massive anthem, Bang A Gong (Get It On) was their only big US hit, but it’s their hidden classic, 20th Century Boy, that Vanity Crash will perform this week in the Crash Pad (just as R.E.M. did in their early days). Even a pandemic can’t stop T. Rex; they will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame later this year.
