On March 19, Holden Arboretum in Kirtland finally closed it gates to the public after staying open longer than most museums and organizations. While its 3,600-acre outdoor facility allowed for visitor social distancing, crowding was happening and I wasn’t possible to maintain distancing while staffing the grounds.
But now visitors are being welcomed back. It started on Tuesday May 12 when members were invited to make reservations and come visit — wearing masks, staying six feet apart and coming in groups of less than ten.
Now Holden has reopened to the general public. Timed-entry advance registrations are required. While buildings are closed, restrooms are now available. But bring your own snacks — no food and beverages are available. The Murch Canopy Walk and Kalberer Emergent Tower are also closed for now. Holden Arboretum is open Tuesday through Sunday, 9am-5pm with last entry at 4pm.
“We are so happy to be open and to welcome the public back during one of the most beautiful times of the year,” they say. “With your help and careful adherence to these public health guidelines, we can remain open. We are learning right along with you about how to best operate in this new world. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and understanding.”
