Ian Charnas, a director and co-founder of the Sears think[box] maker space and “innovation center” at Case Wesern Reserve University, is an artist and engineer who says his goal is “to inspire creativity and the belief that you can do anything.” His projects tend to be fun and playful: he was part of the team that created the Tesla Orchestra, which makes music with giant Tesla coils, and he designed a computerized waterfall swing that makes you feel as if you’re inside a waterfall but you never get wet. On the even more frivolous side, he created a cat butt emoji.
