MANSFIELD: So What If Biden Did It?

Yeah, I know how horrible that sounds, how willing that makes me to sell out my principles by giving voice to such a statement. But considering how high the stakes are in the upcoming presidential election I can live with my choice of giving Biden a pass on perhaps being someone who has transgressed against a woman while steadfastly denying it. Perhaps my willingness to play loose with my moral judgment — indeed, suspend it — has something to do with how, over the last three years, we’ve had to learn to live with a brute who actually said out loud how he likes to violate women sexually, and on many other instances has made highly derogatory remarks about females and their anatomies.

Sure, that’s totally a weak copout, blaming my abandonment of my convictions on someone as low as tRump, which I know basically puts me in the same category as him. But this too I’m willing to do if that’s what it takes to keep this monster from winning reelection. However, being a hypocrite in the most hypocritical nation in the history of the world somehow, in my estimation, simply makes me somewhat normal. As you can see, I’m grasping at any straws here.

But once tRump is out of the White House I’ll attempt to reclaim the moral high-ground, something many of you might posit will be an impossible thing for me to do, but again, I’m willing to take the risk. Simply because I don’t want to chance being the most principled person in one of the concentration camps that conservative Republicans might build to detain those who protest too loudly once they attempt to change our country from a Constitutional Republic to some other form of government, like, say, fascism.

I sincerely believe that will be the first item on their agenda if tRump is reelected — how to design a form of American apartheid where a smaller number of whites can politically control a larger number of non-whites, something many right-wingers have been openly discussing now for years.

On this point I’d rather be called a wild-eyed alarmist, over-the-top speculator, and a wacky conspiracy theorist than to sit by and not do everything within my power to help remove the would-be fascist, who now has the levers of power in his hands, from office.

So, with that mindset, it’s relatively easy for me, especially in this instance, to suffer the opprobrium of those who will undoubtedly accuse me of not being supportive of women that make claims against men of sexual impropriety, which, by the way, is totally untrue. I’m a life-long feminist, but I’m not afraid of risking my bona fides by calling into question the veracity the tall tale being told by a woman that has more holes in it than a 50-pound wheel of Swiss cheese.

To those that say, “Whatever claims a woman might lodge against a man must be taken as gospel and not be subjected to scrutiny,” I say you’ve gone far too far. This stance brings to mind the speech I once heard at a rally for gay rights in New York back in the ’70s.

The transgender speaker said, with a straight face, “I won’t be satisfied when homosexuality is finally made legal … I want it to be made mandatory!” And then she winked because she was purposely going over-the-top to make a point.

So, if trampling on the rights of one woman to be believed, no matter how wild, wacky and inconstant her story (as well as its timing) comes off is the price that is required of me to pay to help assure a Biden victory this fall, then so be it. I’m willing to suffer the consequences of my actions and worry about attempting to reclaim my reputation, principles and soul after November 3rd. Indeed, I pray that I’m successful since one thing’s for sure: I certainly don’t wish to go to Hell, since there’s bound to be a surfeit of right-wing, evangelical, Republicans in residence there.
