Through Sat 3/21
One of the most fun results of Tri-C JazzFest consolidating its activities on one weekend at Playhouse Square is its free outdoor component, which offers food, a bar area, art-making activities, vendors and outdoor music. With appearances by the Parade the Circle puppets and costumed dancers, plenty of room for dancing as well as seating for those who just want to listen, and Fest goers wandering between theaters, it’s a hive of activity.
Most of those bands are local and regional, and one again, Tri-C JazzFest is looking for submissions to perform on the big outdoor stage at the corner of Euclid Avenue and East 15th Street. They’re not restricted to jazz either. If you’re a blues, funk, reggae, rock, jam, soul, Latin or swing act, they’re looking for you too! Last year, bands included 40s pop/swing band Red Light Roxy, reggae rockers Carlos Jones & the P.L.U.S. Band, Sammy De Leon’s Latin Jazz ensemble, swamp rockers Cats on Holiday, Americana/alt country band Rachel Brown & the Beatnik Cowboys, the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra, spoken word artist Orlando Watson, the U.S. Air Force big band the Airmen of Note, and the Armstrong-Bearcat Blues Band, among others.
Bands will perform 40-45 minute sets from 3pm-midnight both Fri 6/26 and Sat 6/27. Application deadline is Sat 3/21. Selected bands will be notified in April, with the lineup and schedule announced in early May. Apply here.
