Cleveland Pops Concert Features All-Male Hip-Hop Troupe From Texas

Fri 1/31 @ 8PM

The Cleveland Pops Orchestra, best known for its programs of audience-pleasing Broadway tunes, pop standards and patriotic pieces, is doing something different this month.

Sure, the music will be the same — Broadway and movie tunes, classics from the swing era — but joining it onstage will be Houston-based ensemble the Fly Dance Company. This youthful, high-energy group features all male dancers performing acrobatic, hip-hop inspired routines that should appeal to a wide range of audience members. Interestingly, it was founded by a woman, Kathy Musick Wood, who recruited street dancers to form the company in 1993. Since then it’s grown into a large-scale operation which tours nationally, and hosts concerts, workshops, residencies and other educational programs.

Carl Topilow will lead the orchestra at Severance Hall as they provide the sonic backdrop for these guest performers. Tickets start at $31.
