Whether you spend a quiet New Year’s Eve at home or go out partying at all hours and drag yourself out of bed in the late morning, going out to brunch on New Year’s Day is a new-ish tradition you can enjoy. And there are numerous places you can go dishing up good food in a relaxed atmosphere.
The Beachland Tavern has become known for its Saturday and Sunday brunches with their diverse menu of food for all appetites and tastes — small plates and large, vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free. For New Year’s Day, they’ll be bringing a soul flavor to their menu adding soul food choices while DJs Mark and Mandy spin old-school soul and R&B vinyl. They’ll be serving from 11am-3pm.

Prosperity Social Club is another place that’s doing a special New Year’s Day brunch from 10am-3pm. It’ll feature In addition to buttermilk pancakes and other brunch staples, along with southern-flavored spicy shrimp and grits, and Hoppin’ John Benedict, plus Three Piggy Cassoulet, a variation on the French country dish featuring ham, sausage, roasted pork loin and white beans sprinkled topped with a fried egg. They’ll also have a variety of special holiday cocktails.
Over in Ohio City, Jukebox will be offering its Good Luck Brunch Buffet from 11am-3pm. The $15 brunch, which is vegan-friendly and offers gluten-free choices, features roasted pork loin & kraut, eggs, bacon, French toast, tofu scramble and more. The $20 Mimosa bottle service includes one bottle of Scarpetta Prosecco, orange juice carafe and fresh fruit slices. There’s also a pierogi menu available for purchase separately.
Finally, you can head over to Nighttown, where they’ll be serving their weekend brunch menu in the main room starting at noon. Jazz trumpeter Dominick Farinacci, a local boy made good, who’s now based in New York but comes home frequently, provides musical accompaniment. This is the only one with a cover charge: $20.
