Mixed-media artist Christopher Kier, a Canadian who now works in Cleveland, is one of HEDGE Gallery’s stable of represented artists. His work is currently on display at the gallery in 78th Street Studios in an exhibit called Totem.
The basis of Kier’s work is encaustic wax on canvas and mylar, a process that gives a 3D quality to the pieces. For this show he’s also created found object sculptures, and used forms taken from architecture, urban detritus and nature to suggest symbols and shapes that reflect the title of the show, which will be on view through 12/27.
Learn more his work, his process and his inspirations at an artist talk at the gallery Wed 12/4 @ 6-8pm. Spend time looking at the work while the artist is onsite to answer questions!
