Sat 11/30-Sun 12/1 @ noon-5PM
The Artists of the Mahoning Commons holiday open studio and art sale is getting a makeover after 17 years, becoming the Ward Bakery Market, with many new artists and new activities and attractions, such as a Vegan Bazaar and an exhibit of 50 painted skateboard decks called YOUNGSTOWN Wants to Skate.
The event will feature food trucks, two local DJs and two artist talks. Of course, there’ll be plenty of art and handcrafted items on display for purchase, including painting, sculpture, photography, pottery, ceramics, furniture and home décor, and of course that old standby, jewelry. But artist Erica Perna will be doing live fan motor painting and we don’t even know what that is!
The market covers two weekends, Sat 11/23-Sun 11/24 and Sat 11/30-Sun 12/1. The first weekend DJ Maya Universe will spin house and jazz music; on the second weekend, Peppermint Pals with Dean Anshutz of Red Wanting Blue will play rare cuts by Youngstown bands from the 50s-80s. Mary Lou Alexander will talk about contemporary quilts on 11/23 @ 2pm, and Georgia Tambasis will discuss funky ceramics, drawings and mono-prints on Sat 11/30 @ 2pm.
It all takes place at the Ward Bakery Building at the Mahoning Commons, 1024 Mahoning Avenue. Admission and parking are both free.
