The Barefoot Movement, an acoustic folk/bluegrass band out of Tennessee, perfectly illustrates the confluence of the respect for traditions and the academic background and trained musicianship that is offering a new slant on old-time music.
The group was formed in 2010 by fiddler Noah Wall and mandolin player Tommy Norris (now a married couple) when they were attending nearby colleges, both studying different aspects of music. Now a foursome, including guitarist/vocalist Alex Conerly and bassist Katie Blomarz, they’ve released a couple of full-length albums, toured the length of the country and performed at numerous folk and bluegrass festivals, following the revival of interest in this type of acoustic music among younger listeners, precisely because of the fresh approach of bands like the Barefoot Revival.
They’ve got a new single, “Early in the Morning,” which will be on their soon-to-be-released EP Rise & Fly. The group returns to northeast Ohio for another show at Cuyahoga Valley National Park’s Happy Days Lodge. Tickets are $24, $20 for CVNP Conservancy members, $10 for students with valid ID.
