Fri 10/11 @ 7PM
It’s been more than two years since the old bank building just east of the corner of Waterloo and E. 156th Street sprang to life with a brightly colored mural that covered its entire outer wall. We were promised that it would be bustling with activity by mid-fall. Then we waited. And waited. And waited.
That wait is finally over, with the Pop Life center bringing new activity to the street. Describing itself as “a collaborative brand rooted in art, design and wellness,” it says its mission “centers around community, love, art and yoga.” You can learn more about it when it hosts a soft opening party Sat 10/11.
From 7pm-midnight, you can explore two floors of businesses and activities including aura photography, chair massages, astrology readings, manicures, tarot, henna, introductory yoga classes all evening, and a guided sound bath meditation in the color-therapy yoga studio. There’ll be free vegan juice tastings and fresh-pressed juice samples from another of the building’s businesses, Ritual Juicery.
There’ll also be music: Edwin Augustin will be providing ambient psych @ 7pm, followed by Tahji @ 8pm and a dance party from 9pm-midnight with DJs Robert Joyce and Cat Pace, and a live light show from Evening Son Video.
Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door.
