Music on the Porches Returns to Peninsula

Sat 9/21 @ 11:30AM-6:30PM

Unlike Cleveland’s Larchmere Porchfest or Akron’s Porch RokR, which take place in bustling urban neighborhoods, Peninsula’s Music on the Porches, now in its 10th year, has a rustic, small-town vibe, and a focus on low-key acoustic and American roots music. And the so-called “porches” are mostly the town’s small businesses, galleries, churches, the Peninsula depot of the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad, and the historic G.A.R. Hall, which regularly hosts concerts in its “Voices in the Valley” series.

It’s also less overwhelming with about 20 music performances and 10 walkable venues. Among the performers: Jack Kidney of Kent’s legendary Numbers Band, which turns 50 next year; blues singer Becky Boyd and her daughter Claudia Miller; folk/bluegrass performer Paul Kovac; acoustic duo Jen and Anthony from Mo’Mojo; lively Americana ensemble Hey Mavis; singer/songwriter/guitarist Gretchen Pleuss; Akron /singe/songwriter and bringer of good vibes Zach Freidhof; power-voiced jazz/blues/country vocalist Rachel Brown of Rachel Brown and the Beatnik Playboys; ad many, many more.

There’ll be plenty of food, both in Peninsula eateries such as the Winking Lizard and Fisher’s Pub and Café, and special promotions, such as a bake sale at the Bronson Church, hot dogs at Peninsula United Methodist Church, and Breadheads Breadery at the Log Cabin Gallery.

 The event is free.
