African-American Authors Are in the Spotlight at Loganberry Books

Sat 9/21 @ noon-4PM

As part of Cleveland Book Week, surrounding the annual Anisfield-Wolf Book Awards (Thu 9/26), the Great Lakes African American Writers Conference is hosting a showcase of writers of color at Loganberry Books on Larchmere Boulevard.

The afternoon will feature several elements, including a tribute to Lorain-born, Noble Prize-winning writer Toni Morrison, who died in August. It will also feature a talk by Anisfield-Wolf Fellow Zachary Thomas, who, as a sophomore at John Carroll University in 2016, launched Writers in Residence, a creative writing program in which college students worked with young people at the juvenile detention center.

There’ll be readings by writers of color from northern Ohio, including those from the Eachworth Journal literary collective whose mission is “to locate and celebrate the best literature from people of color and to expand the audience of readers and writers for the purpose of enriching the body of emerging creative cultural voices around the region.” The afternoon is also intended as a networking opportunity for writers from the region to meet publishing industry pros from New York, Chicago and Los Angeles.

The event is free and open to the public.
