Tomatoes are rolling into peak season now, juicy and flavorful on the vine. If you’re one of those people who’s given up winter tomatoes since realizing how great tomatoes in season are, you’re in your glory now.
And local farms are offering so many varieties you never saw in grocery stores in the past because they didn’t keep or ship well. You can find them at farmers markets and farm stalls all over northeast Ohio. Some of them may look strange to you — odd shapes, unusual colors, even stripes! If you’d like to taste before you buy, this is the week to stop at one of the Countryside Farmers Markets in the Akron area where they’re hosting their annual tomato tastings.
They take place at Highland Square Thu 8/8, at the market at Howe Meadow in Cuyahoga Valley National Park Sat 8/10 and at the Countryside Public Market in downtown Akron Sun 8/11. All local, all fresh!
