Chuck Klosterman, who was once the music writer for the Akron Beacon-Journal, wrote one of the most insightful books about rock & roll in Fargo City Rock. It sheds light on why the acts that are considered the “canon” of rock music are often so different from the bands fans love, and explores why those often critically maligned bands were embraced by ordinary music-loving kids, if not by Rolling Stone writers.
That was 2001 and he’s written a bunch more thought-provoking books since then, such as But What If We’re Wrong, looking at how the nature of conventional wisdom can shift, and a ton of intriguing articles for publications such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, Billboard, The Guardian and Esquire.
Most recently, his new book Raised in Captivity is a collection of humrous and weird short stories. He’ll be in Cleveland at the Parma-Snow branch of the Cuyahoga County Public Library to talk about where these odd stories came from. Books will be available for sale and signing courtesy of Mac’s Back in Coventry Village.
