Fri 6/28-Sat 6/29
The 40th annual Tri-C JazzFest at Playhouse Square is in the history books, with multiple shows in the various theaters attracting thousands of music lovers, and many more gathering on the closed-to-traffic corner of Euclid Avenue and West 14th Street to browse vendors, enjoy food and drink, watch a mural painter, take in a cooking demo or listen in to an interview with a participating musician.
And of course there was nonstop music on the big outdoor stage, with dancers packing the street, joined by costumed characters and puppets from Parade the Circle. A downpour on Friday evening pushed things back a little but didn’t shut down the fun, with the Dave McMurray Trio from Detroit, and Cleveland bands Collin Miller and the Brother Nature and Carlos Jones & the P.L.U.S. Band keeping things going. On Saturday, Get Hep Swing offered a quickie dance lesson before swing ensemble Red Light Roxy played, followed by Cats on Holiday with their energetic swamp rock. Sammy DeLeon y su Orquesta closed things down with 11 musicians powering their Latin jazz.
