Mirth Stellar Regions Trio Explores Jazz’s Outer Limits at the BOP STOP

Wed 7/17 @ 8:00PM

The Mirth Stellar Regions Trio is an adventurous jazz guitar trio which aims to build upon the history of jazz improvisation, taking it in new directions inspired by the great legends of the past. They describes themselves as “A culmination piecing together ideas and explorations from years of practice. Ideas of freedom, ideas of control, ideas of influence, ideas of inspiration.”

Guitarist/band leader Tim Mirth says he “dreamed of a group that brought the soul of Coltrane and Hendrix into the modern age.” He also claims artists such as Kurt Rosenwinkel, Chris Potter, Mark Giuliana, Wayne Krantz, James Brown, and Shawn Lane as influences; he’s played metal, jazz, funk, classical and rap, graduating from Led Zeppelin cover bands to experimental ensembles such as percussionist/gongs/singing bowls player Paul Stranahan’s Insomnia. He’s studied jazz at the University of Akron, while expanding his reach outside northeast Ohio with seven albums and European tours.

The ensemble also includes bassist Seth Boyle, who performs with soul singer Alyssa Boyd and toured with electrojam band Vibe & Direct, and drummer Tony Kazel, a member of Oregon Space Trail of Doom, as well as many NE Ohio jazz ensembles.

They’ll be performing at the BOP STOP. Admission is $12.
