Learn How a Golf Course Returns to Nature @ Artists Archives of the Western Reserve

Sat 8/3 @ 1-3PM

Environmental Impact: Stress, Hope, and Transformation, currently at the Artists Archives of the Western Reserve, features the responses of 11 artists to the climate crisis the world is facing.

One of the pieces in the show features the work of photographer Stuart Pearl, who was hired to document the process of the former Acacia Country Club golf course after it was acquired by the Cleveland Metroparks and restored to a natural state. Together with his wife Jeanne, a retired registered nurse, they’ve been Metroparks volunteers for decades.

Working on the project together, the Pearls went to 39 locations across the park and took four directional photos each spring, summer and fall to document the space in transition and how it repaired itself from its days as a manicured, pesticide-treated golf course. Pairs of these photos showing the changes are part of Environmental Impact.

They’ll talk about how they took the photos and what they mean in a presentation at AAWR that will also cover Acacia’s history and the ongoing restoration. It’s free and open to all. Register here.
