Summer’s the season for free music, with clubs, festivals and cities sponsoring all kinds of bands and musicians. And contrary to what some gripers say, it’s not all tribute or cover bands either: there are loads of places to check out local original music and maybe find a new favorite band to get you through the winter.
Local Internet radio station oWow’s Happy Hour series a the Music Box Supper Club is one such place to check out bands. Modeled on the old WMMS Coffeebreak Concerts, the shows are broadcast live at 6pm.
This week, you can catch the Chestertons, a guitar rock quintet that emerged from the songwriting team of Kevin and Brian Bianchi. In 2015, the joined formed with dummr Rob Wynne and multi-instrumentalist Justin Hartman to form the band. Last December, the same month the group released their latest album Into the Unknown, they added noted local musician Jerry Popiel on guitar.
Check them out at the Music Box for free. Doors open at 5, so come early for drinks and dinner, and hang out afterwards — the bands usually play a little longer after the live broadcast is over.
