Photographer Abe Frajndlich, a native Cleveland who spent most of his career in NYC (he’s now living back in his hometown), became known for his infrared photography, a reflection of his interest in the zen photography practiced most notably by Minor White.
But after moving to New York, he also became known for his portraits of celebrated creative figures from musicians like Lou Reed, to artists and cultural avatars like Yoko Ono, Christo and Andy Warhol, to fellow photographers like Cindy Sherman, Gordon Parks and Thomas Struth. Some of his portraits are currently on view at moCa Cleveland in Abe Frajndlich: Portraits from Our Early Years.
Frajndlich will be at moCa to talk about his work in “Portraying Culture,” where he’ll tell some behind-the-scenes stories and reveal some of the secrets behind shooting these cultural stars. It’s free and open to all.
