Young Cleveland Jazz Singer/Songwriter Ava Preston Plays the BOP STOP

Wed 5/29 @ 8PM

Singer/songwriter Ava Preston is only 14 years old, but she’s on her way to a musical career. The Clevelander won Downbeat’s 2019 title as the best junior high jazz vocalist in the country, a category she also won in 2018, along with best blues/pop/rock vocalist. She’s performed at venues such as Nighttown, the BOP STOP and Akron’s Blu Jazz +, and she has a more professional website than many of the area’s veteran jazz musicians.

Preston cites such inspirations such as Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong, Nina Simone and Ella Fitzgerald, as well as contemporary artists such as Sara Bareilles, Alanis Morrissette, Nora Jones, Esperanza Spaulding and Diana Krall, demonstrating the sophistication of her taste and range of her ear.

Preston returns to the BOP STOP to perform an evening of her own original music. Tickets are $12.
