Riversweep 2019 Prepares the Cuyahoga River for a Big Summer

Sat 5/11 @ 9AM-noon

The Canalway Partners of Northeast Ohio is launching a call to action to beautify our natural treasures on Sat 5/11 from 9am-12pm in a massive cleanup of the Cuyahoga River Corridor.

This “RiverSweep” is Ohio’s largest done-in-a-day cleanup that clears and brings awareness to areas that will one day be transformed into a trail or park. Previous years of RiverSweep have brought huge numbers and showed impressive results — in 2018, 700 volunteers removed over 32,265 tons of trash, including 273 tires. Since its founding 29 years ago, 19,108 volunteers have helped extract and recycle 24,317 illegally discarded tires and picked up for disposal 655 tons of trash.

If you or a group are interested in volunteering at a particular site, there are many to choose from. The following neighborhoods/areas will have volunteers station: the Flats West, Rivergate, Canal Basin Park, Train Avenue, Tremont, West Creek, Big Creek/Lower Harvard, Slavic Village, Mill Creek, Johnston Mill Run & Forestdale. Find meeting times, locations, and contacts for each of these locations here.

The first 700 volunteers will receive a t-shirt and all will get gloves and bags. To participate in this huge collaborative effort, a volunteer waiver must be filled out either in advance or on-site. The form can be found here.
