Photography and environmentalism collide in Linda Butler’s showing and presentation Lake Erie: On the Edge, a 50-print exhibition that celebrates this gem. Between 2014 and 2017, Butler circumnavigated the entire lake several times and captured aerial views by small plane. She hopes to inspire individuals to protect the lake from the worsening environmental conditions.
Butler says, “In my current photographs of Lake Erie, an undercurrent of concern permeates the images of coal-burning power plants, refineries and immense industrial complexes that encircle the lake. Yet on a crisp spring day, ducks shake off the cold water, and green leaves emerge from branches of trees. After a long winter, joy is palpable. In these images, fact and emotion knit themselves together in a complex mosaic that examines the web of our lives on one of the world’s great lakes.”
This Conservation Conversation is a free event brought to you by Protect Geauga Parks, with donations cheerfully accepted. Prints will be on display Thu 5/16 from 6:30-8:30pm, and a presentation by Linda Butler at 7pm at the West Woods Nature Center.
