Cleveland Street Glass Rebrands, Expands & Hosts Open Studio

Sat 5/4 @ 11AM-3PM

Multimedia artist Deanna Dionne is familiar to people who attended events such as the Cleveland Flea, the Waterloo Arts Fest and Night Market Cleveland where she’s been selling her distinctive jewelry for three seasons as Cleveland Street Glass.

She was inspired to create by the mess left behind when her car was broken into shortly after she moved to Cleveland in 2014. Instead of just moaning about her bad luck, she swept up the pieces of glass and made them into earrings and necklaces.

“Metaphorically, the jewelry speaks to a larger story of finding positives within the negative, displaying resilience, and how beauty exists in the broken,” Deanna told CoolCleveland last year. “At times we may feel unrepairable, but the ability to embrace our scars and flaws is a powerful accomplishment. This jewelry serves as a reminder of self-acceptance.”

Now the versatile artist, who also designs websites, does illustrations and creates marketing materials for artists, makers and small businesses, is taking her street glass creativity to the next level. She’s renamed the business Street Glass Studio to relaunch her expanded brand, which will also include larger, three-dimensional sculptures for display rather than wearing.

She’ll be opening her downtown studio (2218 Superior Avenue, #200) to visitors this Saturday to show off her new collection of earrings and necklaces, along with pieces from her upcoming sculpture exhibit that opens May 24, at Oberlin’s Verite Glass. It’s a chance for people who have admired her work to learn more about her process and what goes into making the pieces. She’s also invited two other female artists to share their work during her opening studio: Grace Kildoo McConnell, who does watercolor landscapes, portraits and abstracts, and Tatiana Athena Gracyk who makes needle felted fiber sculptures.
