Civil Rights Activist Talks About his Work at Cleveland’s North Presbyterian Church

Sat 5/4 @ 4PM

Now that we appear to have all major names declared for the 2020 Presidential race, it is time to talk about voting. Voter suppression is still very alive and well, targeting minority communities and actively silencing the voices that most need to be heard. This is nothing new — from the complete disenfranchisement of black and women citizens to the use of threats and violence to strategic gerrymandering and voter ID laws, this practice has been around as long as democracy has.

Michael Bibler worked on voter registration in the Mississippi and Alabama in the ’60s, as well as advocating for general voting rights, school integration and open housing. He worked as field staff for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, whose first president was Martin Luther King Jr. Bibler also worked with the original Freedom Riders.

In his talk “Active Nonviolence at Work”, Bibler will discuss his experiences in this field. Presented by Cleveland Nonviolence Network, this discussion will include a meet and greet @ 4pm, an interview @5pm, and a light supper @ 6pm Sat 5/4 at North Presbyterian Church at 4515 Superior Avenue.
