Sat 3/23 @ 6PM
The first bout of 2019 is here for the Burning River Roller Derby! On Sat 3/23, kick off the season with Cleveland’s premier skater-run derby league.
The Burning River Hazmat Crew (the intermediate team) will face the Central Ohio Roller Derby in the first round, followed by All Stars team facing Battle Creek Cereal Killers. The entire league, which was founded in 2006, now has about 65 skaters and officials…all volunteer! BRRD provides an inclusive community for women and nonbinary people to both pursue and celebrate athleticism and strength — qualities often rejected and discouraged by feminine and gender-conforming standards.
This kickoff event also encourages community engagement through charity partnerships. This year, the BRRD is supporting City Dogs, Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Northern Ohio Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation. Cash donations and item donations will be welcome at Saturday’s event — City Dod’s wishlist can be found here, and Big Brothers Big Sisters is accepting jackets, socks and toiletry items such as feminine products, toothbrushes and combs. Fans who donate to the charity of their choice will receive a chance to spin the BRRD prize wheel at all regular season games.
Saturday’s action will take place at the team’s west side home, the North Olmsted Soccer Sportsplex. Get your tickets here or at the door. Doors open @ 5pm and the first round begins @ 6pm.
*Allergy warning: Please note all nuts are prohibited into bouts due to a severe allergy of one of the league members. Thank you!*
