Wed 2/20 @ 6-9PM
LAND Studio and Soulcraft Cleveland are collaborating with local artists and the public to create a new public art piece called Forum. An open-air pavilion, Forum is a project designed by London-based art and architecture firm that will feature, mostly uniquely, a ceiling created using marquetry — the art and craft of applying paper-thin pieces of wood to a structure to form decorative patterns and designs.
LAND and Soulcraft are calling on artists and the public to help in this project. There are eight paid artist positions and 100 community participant spots open to play a role in creating this public art. Selected artists will lead teams of those interested in marquetry to design and create the intricate Forum ceiling. Using Soulcraft’s workspace at the Hamilton Collaborative, participants will have the opportunity to practice this unique and beautiful skill with the guidance of trained craftspeople.
An informal community meeting will be held at Soulcraft Cleveland on Wed 2/20 from 6-9pm to learn more about how the piece will be constructed, how to get involved, and to answer questions about the program. No experience is needed to apply as a workshop leader or as a public participant, as Soulcraft will be providing marquetry training to all.
