There’s no reason why honoring the towering legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. needs to be confined to a single day. So Ursuline College is extending the celebration with a multimedia presentation called “Follow the Leader: Recognizing Our Ancestors, Forging Our Own Paths.”
It features Texas-based poet/performance artist Alexandria Gurley aka Alex Tha GREAT, who has been traveling around the country since 2011 promoting social justice with her performances.
She says, “Generally, a great leader is one who knows how to be a great follower first; but the question begs, who do millennials have to look up to? This multimedia presentation seeks to have participants recall significant leaders of the past in African American history and their trajectory to the present day, with the implications on identity politics and social structures in the African-American community.”
The free performance in Daley Hall is open to the public and is preceded by a 5pm reception.
