Are Cleveland’s old-world cultures and traditional dying out as the percentage of immigrants in the region’s population has plummeted? It doesn’t seem that way, with young people flocking to ethnic organizations to connect to the things their great grandparents and great-great grandparents brought over with them.
Hence, the Cleveland Hungarian Scout Folk Ensemble’s 45th anniversary gala performance “From the Cradle to the Grave,” taking place at the Lakewood Civic auditorium, an every-five-years celebration of the music, dance and colorful costumes of the region.
The ensemble was formed in 1973 to pass the language, customs and arts of Hungarians to a new generation. At this event, they’ll perform to live music by Cleveland’s Harmonia, led by Walter Mahovlich and Toronto’s Gyanta, led by Kalman Magyar, combining their members.
Tickets are $18; $12 for children 12 and under. Go to clevelandregos.org to purchase.
