Folk Legend Carolyn Hester Makes a Rare Appearance at Avon Lake’s Barnegie Hall

Sat 11/10 @ 7:30PM

Folksinger Carolyn Hester may not be as well known today as some of the other members of the ’60s folk revival, but she was a key player. She was one of its first breakout artists, releasing her first album in 1957, before Joan Baez, Judy Collins or Buffy Sainte-Marie. A native Texan, she relocated to New York to become part of the burgeoning movement. It was her face that appeared on the cover of a 1964 Saturday Evening Post issue with a story about the folk movement. She was even a vital connection between Bob Dylan and his recording contract with Columbia that made him a star.

Now 81, she’s performed only sporadically since the 60s, occasionally accompanied by her musician daughters Karla and Amy Blume who joined her for her most recent album, 2010’s We Dream Forever. They’ll be with her when she makes a rare area appearance at Barnegie Hall in Avon Lake, where they’ll sing songs from across her career, and she’ll tell stories about her experiences and the people she’s known. They’ll also do a meet-and-greet after the performance — no special VIP ticket needed!

Admission is a $15 donation which goes to the nonproft Music on a Mission foundation. Since no food or drink is sold, you are welcome to bring your own. Email Marilyn@musicmissioninc.com to reserve your seat.
