The Cleveland Orchestra Glides Into Fall with “Swan Lake” and Two Premieres

Thu 9/20 @ 7:30PM

Sat 9/22 @ 8PM

Ah, Swan Lake! The ultimate fantasy of every little girl who’s dreamed of being a ballerina is a filmy white tutu. Also with his Nutcracker, Swan Lake is Tchaikovsky’s most familiar ballet score, and countless young girls have pirouetted around the bedrooms to it.

There won’t be much pirouetting, except in the imagination, when Franz Welser-Möst and the Cleveland Orchestra mount the stage of Severance Hall to play the music this week to launch their 2018-2019 season. Also on the program are “Pantheon,” a world premiere and Cleveland Orchestra commission composed by the orchestra’s assistant principal oboist Jeffrey Rathbun, and the U.S. premiere of “Left, alone,” by Danish composer Hans Abrahamsen, a piano concerto written for just the left hand. The pianist will be Alexandre Tharaud.

Tickets are $21-$151.
