This time of year you can virtually tour the world just by attending church festivals, dedicated to whatever ethnicity that particular church was based on.
This weekend you can travel to Hungary with the St. Stephen’s Hungarian Festival at St. Emeric Church, located right next door to the West Side Market. (Remember when former Bishop Lennon tried to close it and the massive outcry and pushback campaign saved this historic parish? How fortunate we were!)
Like almost all such festivals, it showcases the ethnic music, dance, crafts and kids’ activities but the star is the food, or what their press release describes as “the gastronomical wonders of the Hungarian kitchen.” Come for a meal, a snack of Hungarian-style pastry and wash it down with a drink.
Admission is $3.
