Local Musicians Pay Tribute to Beachland Co-Owner Cindy Barber

Sun 5/6 @ 8PM

For a number of years, northeast Ohio comedian/musician Charlie Weiner has been organizing evenings paying tribute to veteran musicians who have been the backbone of the local scene. They’ve included Alex Bevan, Pat Dailey, Michael Stanley and Carlos Jones.

This year, he and his cohorts are doing something a little different. They’re paying tribute to Cindy Barber, co-owner of the Beachland Ballroom who has been a part of the area music scene for nearly 50 years as a writer, editor, publisher and band manager among other things. While still editor of the Free Times in the late 90s, she was exploring the idea of opening a bar or coffeeshop in the Euclid Beach neighborhood where she lived that could serve as a gathering place for the many artists and musicians she knew who lived in that area.

Soon after leaving the Free Times in late 1998, she purchased the old Croatian Home on Waterloo Road — and the rest is history. The Beachland opened in March 2000 and has hosted thousands of bands and other events since, while serving as the catalyst for the Waterloo Arts District.

Among the musicians paying tribute to Barber are Alex Bevan, Colin Dussault, Neon Don Buchanan, Stutz Bearcat, Eva Dilcue, Dave Smeltz, Marc Lee Shannon, Rachel Brown, Alexis Antes, Tracy Marie, David Krauss, Bob Frank, Ray Flanagan, Robert Kidney and friends, Anita Keys, Marti Jones & Don Dixon, and Maura Rogers.

Tickets are $20.
