Cleveland State University’s Department of Theatre and Dance presents its annual spring Dance concert at Playhouse Square’s Allen Theatre this week.
Onstage, along with the CSU Dance Company, will be alumni, guest musicians and guest artists, performing choreography by Antonio Brown Doug Gillespie, and CSU dance faculty Lisa DeCato, Lynn Deering and Chris DiCello with both new and restaged works.
Cleveland native Brown who went on to perform with the Bill T.Jones/Arnie Zane Company before forming his own troupe created a new piece for CSU’s company called The Race, which tracks a journey to cross the finish line. Brown will also make a special appearance performing excerpts from his 2015 work Here, set to a medley of James Brown tunes.
Among the other works on the program is the 1993 piece EarthSongs, restaged and updated by DeCato, Deering and DiCello for its timely environmental message.
