There’s something about Denton, Texas band Brave Combo that has always seemed at home in Cleveland. Maybe it’s the band’s roots in polka music, which fuels its eclectic sound — Cleveland has deep polka roots as well. Maybe it’s the fondness that the late Steve Popovich, the Cleveland music industry legend and force of nature, had for the band, which came to Cleveland to play in his honor following his 2011 death.
Whatever the reason, the band, formed nearly 40 (!) years ago by accordionist/keyboard player Carl Finch, has always been welcomed here to play its infectious mix of sounds including Tex-Mex, salsa, samba, cha cha and ska, along with polka, which they use to transform popular rock songs into something irresistibly danceable.
If Easter is just another boring day to you with no family obligations, come on down to the Beachland Ballroom where they’ll play an evening’s worth of music and there will certainly be room for dancing. Tickets are $18 in advance, $20 at the door.
