Sun 8/20 @ 1PM
Bassist and broadcaster Kenny Bass was one of the generation of musicians who put Cleveland on the map as the ultimate polka town following World War II. Performing with his band the Polka Poppers, he made many recordings during the 50s and 60s, and was inducted into the National Cleveland Style Polka Hall of Fame in 1989, two years after his death.
Today at the Slovenian SNPJ Farm in Kirtland, accordionist Fred Kuhar will join the Jeff Pecon Orchestra to celebrate Bass’s music and legacy. There will be dancing, food (including “Mile high” fried bologna sandwiches by Chef Dean) and refreshments from 3-7pm.
As an added bonus, Father Frank Perkovich will be travelling to northeast Ohio from Minnesota to lead one of his popular polka masses at 1pm. Admission is $8 for the entire afternoon.
