Guitarist Dan Wilson has made quite a mark on the local jazz scene in a relatively short time. Since graduating from Hiram College in 2006 and getting his masters degree from Youngstown State University’s noted music program with a thesis in Brazilian music, he’s played all the major northeast Ohio venues and appeared with virtually every important jazz musician in the area. He also teaches in Tri-C’s renowned jazz studies program.
In 2012 he released his debut album To Whom It May Concert in 2012, and although he has recorded with jazz organ legend Joey DeFrancesco whose band he plays with, so far, that’s been his only recording. That’s about to change — and you can be part of it. Following a successful Kickstarter campaign, he’ll record his next album Balancing Act live at Blu Jazz this weekend. He’ll be joined by pianist Sullivan Fortier, bassist Ivan Taylor, drummer Xavier Breaker and trombonist Sam Blakeslee. They’ll play two sets — two shots at getting everything perfect! Tickets are $30.
