Cleveland-based specialty coffee roaster Rising Star Coffee Roasters has just earned its Kosher certification for the whole bean coffee it roasts at its facility in the Hildebrandt Building off West 25th Street near Clark. As of this month, all coffee Rising Star packages for retail will be labeled Kosher, certified by the Atlanta Kashruth Commission.
“Getting Kosher certification is more than just being able to comply with Kosher rules for those who follow strict Kosher laws,” says Rising Star’s coffee director Brandon Riggs in the press release announcing the certification. “Even non-Jewish customers know about Kosher laws and know that certification means that we follow strict guidelines on cleanliness, purity and quality.”
Atlanta Kashruth Commission’s Rabbi Reuven Stein of Rabbi Stein and a colleague toured Rising Star’s roasting operation and discussed what they needed to do for certification. They achieved it in a matter of weeks.
Rising Star, which was founded in 2010, has three locations in Hingetown, Little Italy and the Hyatt Arcade downtown. It also wholesales its products to other businesses and sells coffee-related items including brewing equipment, grinders and tea.
