Ah! Hair metal! Many who were around for its ’80s golden years can’t let go, which is why those bands, which were obliterated when Nirvana dropped Nevermind in the fall of 1991, keep coming back … and back… and back…
Ratt was one of the pack of such bands that emerged in the ’80s to liven up the early MTV era with their colorful clothes, big hair, party-hearty attitude and aggressively melodic, guitar-driven songs. Like many of their peers, the band came out strong with their 1984 debut Out of the Cellar, producing a top 20 hit “Round and Round” and going triple platinum. Three more platinum albums followed before the band ran into the ’90s and ran out of steam, beginning the inevitable round of member changes, reunions, hiatuses and legal fights about who owns the name.
Each of these bands featured a colorful lead singer/frontman. Ratt’s was Stephen Pearcy, whose distinctive appearance was stronger than his onstage personality — he was certainly no Vince Neil or Bret Michaels, for better or worse.
Pearcy’s now on the road doing his own thing — and the Ratt thing as well. He’s got a full band doing hard-charging electric versions of the best-known Ratt tunes. He’ll be hitting the Kent Stage with a dose of the ’80s, along Cleveland’s own ’80s hair metal star Billy Morris of Kidd Wicked, opening the show with his band playing a tribute to the late Jani Lane of Warrant.
Tickets are $20 general admission, or $70 for VOP experience that includes admission to sound check, and a meet-and-greet and photo with Pearcy.
